Welcome to 8-Tracks.
Welcome to 8-Tracks.
You’re probably asking yourself, “What is 8-Tracks?”. Well, 8-Tracks is a new internet show where your favorite people discuss their personal 8 favorite songs, paired with a series of unique and interesting questions, all hosted by yours truly. Below is my story and how this show came to be.
My name is Lorenzo “Brock” Shavers, the host and creator of the show. My love for music started at a young age. Whether I was “Moanin’” with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, howling the words to “Come Sail Away” by Styx, or trying to learn the rhyme scheme for “Gold Digger” by Kanye West, I’ve always been captivated by music.
I started playing saxophone at the age of 10— it’s shaped like a J… right? So in my little head, it was the instrument of jazz. I was instantly hooked, and still am.
In high school, I started taking jazz seriously, and through the help of some amazing teachers and professors, I got pretty good. I even got the opportunity to travel to New Orleans and play at the JEN Conference (Jazz Education Network).
Some photos of me playing the saxophone, alongside some pretty cool people.
After high school, I moved to Austin, TX, with no idea what I wanted to do with myself. After working shitty job after shitty job (Preston I love you bro) I decided to sign up for a semester of psychology at Austin Community College. I absolutely hated it, but that’s where I found it, my breath of life, the Audio Technology and Industry department. A whole branch of the school that works with nothing but music. Anything you want to do in the industry, they have it, and after touring the studios and facilities, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I started taking music business classes and interning anywhere I could.

This brings us to today. Where does 8-Tracks come from?
One day, I was waiting for a class and overheard a conversation. This conversation was on the premise of “Your favorite artists’ favorite artist.” Then it hit me: what was my favorite artist’s favorite artist? With no solid proof coming directly from the subject itself, the idea of 8-Tracks was born.
A show where your favorite people reveal their favorite 8 songs and how those songs inspired and shaped them into who they are today.
I am honored to bring you guys on this journey with me and hopefully turn this into something bigger than myself.
As always, thank you for supporting, and I’ll catch you on the other side.
